Genoa, Nev. — We might see a 22-year-old high temperature record fall today. The record high for July 12 is 101 degrees set in 1999. The forecast is for the high to hit 103 degrees. Do what you can to stay cool as the excessive heat warning will be with us through Tuesday night.

Foothill resident Jeff Garvin’s lightning detector got 182 strikes in and around Carson Valley on Friday evening. There was some rain on the east side, which is probably why only seven fires are being blamed on the lightning, including the 7-acre Mud Lake 2 fire.

I very much doubt the 2.7-acre Jacks Valley 2 Fire was caused by lightning. Friday’s fire was reported 4:16 p.m. July 9, while its big brother started 4:27 p.m. June 9, and both fires definitely started by the road. I suspect someone is tossing a cigarette butt out the window on their commute home.

Design of the Martin Slough Trail goes before the Douglas County Water Conveyance Advisory Committee 4 p.m. today at the Minden Inn. They’re also discussing a land division map north of Genoa Lane that will calve off a 2.5-acre parcel from 251 acres.

The official temperature for Sunday was 101 degrees. There’s no sign of thunderstorms in the forecast today, but that doesn’t mean they won’t show up. Otherwise expect sunny skies with the west wind 10-15 mph in the afternoon, gusting to 30 mph.
