Genoa, Nev. — Special Olympians and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be doing a Torch Run through Gardnerville and Minden starting in Heritage Park at 9 a.m. There could be some traffic delay in the northbound lanes of Highway 395.


They’ll be bowling for dollars down at Wink’s Silver Strike Lanes in the Gardnerville Ranchos to benefit resident Christine Mills 11 a.m. Saturday. You can still sign up today at the alley. Visit their FaceBook page for more information.


‘Beautiful Noise’ opens tonight in Minden at 7:30 p.m. Carson Valley Community Theatre is doing six shows, including two Sunday matinees. Tickets may be purchased online at www.showtix4u.com Movies in the Park will be showing ‘Tom & Jerry’ at Heritage Park in Gardnerville 8 p.m. tonight.


A wildfire burning in the Carson Iceberg Wilderness south of Highway 4 in Alpine County tripled in size to 900 acres and put up some smoke after getting some wind on Wednesday. The Henry Fire is being managed for forest health and is 21 percent contained.


The Death Ride will close Highways 89 and 4 in Alpine County on Saturday. Highway 89 will close 5 a.m. to noon at Highway 395 and Highway 4. Highway 4 will be closed 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monitor Junction to Lake Alpine. The race starts and finishes at Turtle Rock Park so watch for the 2,100 or so bicyclists through there.


It’s beautiful out this morning with a temperature of 47 degrees. It will warm up to around 93 degrees today with the Zephyr blowing 10-15 mph in the afternoon, gusting to 25 mph.
