Community spotlight: MEFIYI, golf scores

Jorgensen tops at Silver Oak Stableford event
Paul Jorgensen scored the most overall points at the Sunday Men’s Club modified Stableford tournament, one of two concurrent events July 25 at Silver Oak Golf Course.
In modified Stableford play, points are given based on the net (after a player’s handicap is applied) score on each hole: double eagle (10 points), eagle (6 points), birdie (3 points), par (1 point), bogey (0 points), and double bogey or worse (-2 points).
Eric Schaub and James Ross tied for the most points in the first flight with 29, followed by Ken Koop with 27 points and Michael Parapid with 24 points.
In the second flight (players with higher handicaps), Jorgensen led the way with 31 points. Steve Hinckley came in second with 27 points, followed by Rick Ghiglieri with 26 points and Eric Fujita with 25 points.
In the first flight of the semi-final concurrent match play tournament for players who qualified, Alex Talmant and Ben Gelbaum advanced to the upcoming final round.
In the flight two bracket, advancing were William Kapczynski and Jeff Cloutier. Also advancing in the third flight were Ryan Balik and Shane McInnerny.
The Sunday Men's Club season runs every Sunday through Oct. 31 at Silver Oak Golf Course and features weekly games with two or three flights based on handicap and optional gross and net skins games.
Golfers may stop by the golf shop to pick up an application or visit www.silveroakgolf.com to print out and mail an entry. Members of the men’s club receive reduced green fees, range balls every Sunday, Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) service for the year, lunches and awards banquet, prizes, trophies, and access to a web portal to view events and scores each week.
Carson Valley Men’s 2-man best ball
The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club held a two-man team best ball tournament on July 25.
The team of Pete Maendle and David Morris won the tournament with a net score of 61. Bill Allen and Jim Rodrigues took second with a net score of 64. Three teams tied for third, all with net scores of 65. They were Marc Menezes and Shawn Mott, Mike Davis and Augire Martinez plus Nick Sutter and Blake Peterson.
The closest to the pin contest was won by David Morris on hole 1 and Allan Hopper on hole 18.
The Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club held an individual stroke play tournament with Stableford scoring July 28.
David Monegan won flight A with 40 Stableford points. James Seals took second with 39 points followed by Gary Raybould in third, also with 39 points, and Wade Walker in fourth with 48 points.
Dave Nolte won Flight B with 39 points, ahead of Rene Ojeda with 37 points, Nick Paul with 35 points and Mala Chizak with 34 points.
Henry Teague won Flight C with 34 points ahead of Robey Willis, Ken Cuneo and John Sullivan all with 31 points.
Flight D was taken by Jerry Ventura with 36 points ahead of Dino Dicianno in second place also with 36 points, John Pearson in third with 34 points and Bob White in fourth place with 32 points.
The closest to the pin contest was won by Gary Dalen on hole 5, Bill Hetherton on hole 8, John Tierney on hole 13 and John Pearson on hole 13.


Carson Valley men play Vice Presidents Cup
The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club held its annual Vice Presidents Cup tournament on July 18. In this tournament the best 15 out of 18 holes were scored for each player.
Flight A was won by Nels Ahnlund with a net score of 56. There was a tie for second between Harry Collins and Nick Sutter.
Flight B was won by Bob Buker with a net score of 51. There was also a tie in this flight for second between Bill Allen and Augie Martinez.
Matthew Budjako won Flight C with a net score of 49 followed by Pete Maendle in second and John Carey in third.
The closest to the pin contest was won by Ahnlund on hole 18 and Marc Menezes on hole 1.
