The splash pad in Minden Park was very popular on Memorial Day and is likely to see even more folks as the weather continues to warm up this week.

Temperatures are expected to crack the 90s in Minden today, warming up to 95 degrees on Wednesday and again on Thursday as high pressure builds over Western Nevada.

It’s unlikely temperatures will overturn the record highs for June 2 and 3, set in 1924, when it reached 98 and 96 degrees.

There’s a possibility temperatures will cool down early next week.

According to a statement issued by the National Weather Service, some valleys in Western Nevada could see temperatures in the upper 90s.

The heat will see the last of the snowpack in the Sierra melting off, increasing flows in mountain streams and creeks. While the flows will be below average, water temperature will be cold and can cause thermal shock.

“Lake water temperatures are dangerously cold and thermal shock will be a threat to those seeking a quick cool-off by jumping into lake waters,” forecasters said. “Personal flotation devices are recommended.”

With increased heat, there’s a chance for isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.

Westerly winds are expected to return by Thursday afternoon, gusting to 25-30 mph.
