Genoa, Nev. — It appears we’ve made it through the first day of the first red flag warning for critical fire danger without a critical fire. Day 2 is upon us and the drapeau rouge ascends for 11 hours at noon. If something you’re doing outdoors sprays a bunch of sparks into the brush, stop doing that.

Members of the Water Conveyance Advisory Committee, affectionately known as the Ditch Committee, are meeting 4 p.m. today at the Minden Inn to discuss a 5-foot diameter culvert for the Virginia Canal under the extension of Muller parkway along Toler. The Martin Slough Trail is also on today’s agenda.

The 2021 Open/15-Meter Nationals is scheduled to continue today, though weather may be a factor. They took a rest day on Sunday with California pilot Rick Indrebo nine points up on Peter Deane, according to the unofficial results posted at SSA.org.

The Carson Valley Days Carnival is expected to roll into Gardnerville sometime today to set up for Thursday. Special needs night is Wednesday. Thursday is Buddy Night. Pre-sale tickets for Friday through Sunday and Carson Valley Days buttons are on sale now around the Valley.

The Nevada Discovery Ride is in Smith Valley, according to nevadadiscoveryride.com. Rider Samantha Szesciorka started her third ride across the Silver State with adopted wild horse Sage and dog Juniper on May 1. She’s due in at the Johnson Lane Trailhead on Saturday.

Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 82 degrees. It will be breezy with the wind out of the east 5-10 mph, shifting southwest 15-20 mph before noon, gusting to 35 mph.
