Sertomans awarded six book scholarships and one vocational scholarship to 2021 seniors on May 28.
Receiving scholarships were Haley Fournier, Amber Lomé, Isabella Dickey, Maggie Hutchings, Elizabeth Loflin, Brayden Worthington and Nathan Ericsson.
Sertoma of Carson Valley also named its Sertoman of the Year Award.
Susan McKie has only been a member of Sertoma for a few years but has already participated extensively in the club’s programs, services and activities.
“She is enthusiastic and quick to volunteer her services,” according to the selection committee. “She readily stepped up to be the club’s social director, having to fill the shoes of the former member, Maria Raker.”
Sertomans said Raker was a hard act to follow.
“Our winner took on the challenge and created some new ways for the members to socialize and she brought new and different ways to have fun while fundraising,” according to the club. “A participant at every Sertoma event, she is also a member of C.E.R.T and volunteers at the food bank.”
The selection committee rated each nomination based on member recruitment, offices held, leadership contributions, service and activities. The committee also considers outside activities related to community service.
