Genoa, Nev. — I hope to find out more about the vehicle rollover that resulted in the death of a passenger on Highway 208 just east of Jack Wright Pass on Saturday evening.

The county will be closing Mottsville Lane 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Thursday to work on the shoulder. Emergency vehicles and residents will be able to use the roadway during the closure. Use Centerville or Muller lanes to access Foothill to get to Kingsbury Grade.

It’s both Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 246th birthday today, with the Nevada Guard celebrating 10 a.m. today at the Veterans Memorial on the Capitol grounds. They will have cake and speakers.

A heat advisory has been issued for Western Nevada for Thursday and Friday with Minden forecast to see temperatures of 99 degrees both days. The record for Thursday is 98 degrees set in 2003 while the record for Friday is 97 degrees set in 1985.

A lake wind advisory is in effect noon to 9 p.m. today with the wind out of the southwest at 15-20 mph gusting to 30 mph in the Valley. Expect a high temperature of 85 degrees today and 88 degrees on Tuesday before the thermostat goes up to 96 degrees on Wednesday.

I was traveling all day on Sunday and am now in southern Arizona visiting my parents this week. It was 117 degrees out in the desert. I’m getting email and have a couple of stories in the works.
