Genoa, Nev. — Around 130 people turned out for a town hall Wednesday at the CVIC Hall sponsored by the Douglas County Republican Central Committee to discuss the 2021 Legislative session. Term-limited Sen. James Settelmeyer said redistricting will be the topic of a special session that could well see his seat going to Clark County.

An excessive heat watch has been issued for 2 p.m. Sunday to 10 p.m. Wednesday for most of the Sierra Front. The forecast for Minden is running 98-99 degrees through the watch, with lows hovering around 60 degrees.

To put that in perspective, the closest those highs will come to cracking a record will be June 28, with a record high of 100 degrees set during the 2006 heat wave that saw four consecutive days of 100-degree plus high temperatures. According to National Weather Service records two of those days hit 104 degrees.

We may see some scattered showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. today and some cooler weather with a high of 85 degrees before the furnace cranks up. Enjoy it while you can.
