One person was killed, and another injured in a single vehicle crash along Highway 88 just south of Minden on Saturday evening.
Reports from the scene were that someone was ejected when a mid-sized sedan left the highway and came to rest in a field near the bridge over the East Fork.
The collision was reported at 6:10 p.m. and closed the highway for a time while medics worked on the victim, who succumbed before they could be transported for treatment. The other occupant of the vehicle was taken by East Fork ambulance.
The fatality was the fourth on Douglas County highways during 2021 and the second along Highway 88.
A motorist who lost control of his pickup on Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe around 12 hours earlier was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with severe injuries.
Deputies said the man had been thrown from the pickup and was critically injured in the 6:25 a.m. rollover. Highway 50 was reopened around 90 minutes after the collision.
