Douglas County’s first Autism Resource Fair is 1-4 p.m. April 10 at the Douglas County Community Center with COVID safety precautions in place. The fair, hosted by the Family Support Council, will provide parents, caretakers, and those on the spectrum an opportunity to connect with available autism providers and resources in the Northern Nevada region.
Participating fair vendors may include:
Advocates
First Responders
Information regarding legal guardianship
Medical professionals
Recreation opportunities/therapies
Sensory Stations
Service Clubs
State Services and Organizations
Therapists
Therapy Dogs
Swag bags are generously donated by Heavenly Mountain Resort and Vail Resort Epic Promise. Enter into the raffle to win a free iPad from the Autism Coalition of Nevada, which will go directly to a family affected by a spectrum disorder. Additionally, you will be able to sign-up for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office ‘Autism Alert Program’, take photos with a specialty wrapped Sheriff’s Office vehicle, and more.
“Our hope is to provide a fun day where the public can engage with those who offer services to people on the spectrum because we understand how difficult it can be to find services in rural areas,” said Executive Director Veronica LaChance. “We appreciate all the local businesses, organizations, and volunteers who are donating resources to make this event happen. Following the fair, Family Support Council hopes to be a conduit to getting people to the service providers they need.”
The Autism Resource Fair was scheduled for 2020 in honor of autism awareness month, but was cancelled due to COVID-19. Family Support Council is looking forward to hosting it this year, while still remaining in compliance with event guidelines.
Registration is still open to all vendors and any services, which may support those on the Autism Spectrum. To sign-up for a vendor table at no cost, email donate@family-support.org.
