Genoa, Nev. — Genoans are betting they’ll get to have Candy Dance this fall. Board members met Wednesday night to discuss the budget and hiring a new town manager. Candy Dance accounts for $303,769 of the town’s revenue, almost five times the money raised in property taxes.
The manager’s job has been posted to the county web site and closes on April 5. The salary is posted at $56,056-$84,094, but I anticipate it’s unlikely someone will be hired at anywhere near the top end. To find out more, click douglascountynv.gov and click jobs.
County Manager Patrick Cates’ evaluation is scheduled for today’s county commissioner meeting. In Nevada, leadership positions like county manager, any of the town managers, school superintendent are conducted in public. These folks perform their duties in a fish bowl, and people love to tap on the glass.
Commissioners meet starting at 1 p.m. today. On the agenda is revision of the sprinkler ordinance to exempt manufactured homes under certain circumstances.
We had a little burst of 13 new coronavirus cases reported by Douglas County Emergency Management on Wednesday. With two new recoveries, that brings Douglas to 382 active cases. Around 45 people were tested at Tuesday’s community event.
While eligibility for coronavirus vaccines is opening up, there may still be some issue with access. If you want a shot, check immunizenevada.org and click county-specific plans. You have to do some scrolling to get to Douglas.
I heard Tuesday that all but one of the Main Street hanging basket sponsorships have been snapped up, and that one might be gone by now. They’re still selling sponsorships at www.mainstreetgardnerville.org
The last storm of winter arrives late tonight, though there’s slim to no chance we’ll see any snow in Carson Valley. It might rain a bit this afternoon, but most of what’s coming is expected to arrive after 11.
The forecast says mostly sunny again for today, but I have my doubts. Expect the high to crack 60 degrees, with the wind out of the south at 15-2 mph this afternoon, gusting to 30 mph.
