A former Carson Valley man is facing up to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty on Tuesday to blackmailing a 15-year-old girl into sex.
Jason J. Bahr entered a plea agreement to charges of attempted sexual assault on a child under the age of 16 and lewdness with a child under the age of 16.
Bahr, 47, who lives in Lincoln, Calif., is entering an Alford plea in which he agrees to the felony charges in order to avoid more serious consequences should he be convicted at trial.
He was denying the charges and a trial was set for next fall in the case.
Under the agreement, Bahr will not seek probation on the charges, which carry a combined sentence of 12-30 years in prison.
He was originally charged with three Category A sexual assault felonies, which could have resulted in multiple life sentences if he was convicted at trial.
The incidents occurred between March and August 2018. Because of the plea, the victim won’t have to testify at trial, though she or her representative will be able to provide a victim impact statement.
As part of the negotiated settlement, Bahr will remain free on bail until he is sentenced on Sept. 7. He will have to register as a sex offender once he is released.
