Genoa, Nev. — The freeze watch has been upgraded to a freeze warning 2-9 a.m. Friday. The wind is already blowing with Minden-Tahoe Airport recording a 35 mph gust at 5:15 a.m. There’s a high-wind warning through Washoe Valley so prepare for a blustery commute to Reno.

Expect strong southwest and northwest winds to continue along the Sierra Front today with windier spots seeing 50-60 mph this afternoon. The high wind and low humidity ahead of the front could result in fire weather concerns.

Public comment at Wednesday’s school board meeting was pretty evenly split between parents who want the district to rescind the policy of requiring 10- and 11-year-olds to wear masks and those concerned about the future administration at Zephyr Cove Elementary School.

There’s an effort afoot to raise $50,000 to put on Lights at the Lake at Stateline, according to an email I got after midnight this information. I’m seeking some confirmation on it, but I’ll publish more information on that when that comes in.

The Third Thursday Wine Walk is 4:30-7:30 p.m. today in Gardnerville. I didn’t get the today changed from the print to online edition yesterday, which resulted in someone contacting the town about it. That was entirely my fault.

The first reading of the new vacation home rental ordinance is scheduled for today at the commissioners meeting. They’re meeting in person at 1 p.m. in the CVIC Hall in Minden. They’ll also discuss final budgets for the towns, redevelopment and the county.

Rain showers aren’t forecast to arrive in Carson Valley until around 5 p.m. tonight with some thunderstorms possible. The high is expected to reach around 53 degrees, with the wind 10-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
