A meet and greet for Foothill resident and restauranteur Dr. Fred Simon will be 6:30 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden. As near as I can tell, Dr. Simon was the first candidate to formally announce he’s running for governor.
The National Weather Service issued its drought report on Tuesday, and the drought monitor shows all of Douglas is in a state of extreme drought, despite the recent moisture. The snowpack is melting off pretty quickly with many spots gone 2-4 weeks ahead of average.
The big helicopters flying overhead on Tuesday were participating in wildland firefighting training at the Alpine County Airport conducted by the Nevada Army Guard and the Nevada Division of Forestry.
We’re rolling into summer proper with the high next Wednesday expected to hit 94 degrees. There’s a chance that the heat could generate thunderstorms over the weekend.
Today the forecast calls for the high to hit 80 and just keep going up over the next week. The Zephyr will pick up out of the west this afternoon at 10-15 mph, gusting to 30 mph in spots.
