The Good Neighbor program is hosting a volunteer training on June 18 at the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center in Minden.

This is a community outreach program by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office where seniors are connected with trained and background checked volunteers to better protect them. Program volunteers call and visit seniors in our community who may simply need a friend.

The training runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Training Room and includes an orientation, training in available social services, suicide prevention, and how to spot signs of elder neglect, abuse, and exploitation.

Good Neighbor’s is looking for volunteers of all skill levels who want to connect with and protect our seniors. The minimum age for volunteers is 18 years old. All those interested are welcome to attend the training. Please arrange for your fingerprints to be taken prior to by calling the DCSO Records Division at (775) 782-9933. Lunch will be provided.
