Attire for Gardnerville Elementary students for their annual Veterans Day Assembly will be red, white … and blue on Nov. 10.
The school will host two cohorts of students who will learn about veterans and talk about why the day is important.
Veterans are invited to participate with the third through fifth grades 9-10 a.m. or the pre-Kindergarten through second grade at 10:15-11 a.m.

The event was previously scheduled at the CVIC Hall has now been moved to the Senior Center Grandview dining room.
“We are excited to be partnering with Suicide Prevention Network to honor our Veterans during this event, which will include entertainment, the presentation of branches, guest speakers, raffle prizes, resource information and more,” center officials said.
Lunch will be served following the program, which will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, salad and dessert.
This Appreciation event is open to Veterans of all ages as well as their families. Lunch is free for Veterans; all other guests are a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 years and older and $7 for anyone under 60.

Nov. 10 is also the 246th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. Carson Valley Marines are gathering 6 p.m. at the Douglas County Judicial & Law Enforcement Center.
Marines are invited to attend the observance where the youngest and oldest Marines cut and serve the cake per tradition. The Marine Corps birthday was first observed in Minden starting with then Sheriff’s Capt. Jim EnEarl and continuing when EnEarl became East Fork Justice of the Peace.
Minden resident, former Douglas County Sheriff’s captain and Marine veteran of the battle of Khe Sahn, Steve Orr and his wife Toni will be attending the Marine Corps Birthday Ball at The Orleans in Las Vegas on Nov. 13. Orr and fellow Marine author Mike Archer served together at the battle and will be attending the ball with Archer’s wife Becky.
Orr said the group will be at the Leatherneck Club Bar pre birthday party on Nov. 12 and will be attending the Raiders game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium on Nov. 14.
