Genoa, Nev. — “It’s still on the dock” is not something you’ll hear at a variety of shopping opportunities in Carson Valley this weekend. The Carson Valley Art Association Show is at the CVIC Hall today through Sunday. Both St. Gall Catholic Church and Carson Valley United Methodist Church are conducting craft fairs on Saturday. Check the calendar for more information.

County commissioners approved a 5 percent increase in a variety of fees. It’s been three years since the last fee increase, and it’s not like anything else is getting cheaper. They also approved a high-end RV storage project off Buckeye proposed by Mike Gilbert.

There are 1,433 septic tanks in Johnson Lane contributing to the level of nitrates in the ground water, according to a presentation by Dr. Ramon Naranjo of the U.S. Geological Survey. Ruhenstroth has 500 septic tanks.

East Fork firefighters responded to a report of a fire near the Minden-Gardnerville Sanitation District plant in Minden around 7 a.m. prompted by the plant burning off excess methane.

I’m following up on a wreck at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday near the Kimmerling curves. Driving in Carson Valley demands full attention to the road, because there are lots of potential pitfalls for the unwary.

No coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Douglas County in Thursday’s update from Carson City Health and Human Services. The county has 1,093 active cases, which amounts to 23 percent of the total 4,734 since the contagion arrived in the county.

Being vaccinated is no guarantee you won’t catch the coronavirus. Carson City Health and Human services reports 1,407 per 100,000 people in the four counties, who have had a break-through case. There are only 168,693 residents, so it’s pretty safe to multiply that by 1.68 to get the actual number. That’s compared to 9,697 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated residents.

We’re looking at mostly sunny skies today with a high near 69 degrees and the wind 5-10 mph, gusting to 20 mph out of the southwest. There might be some rain on Saturday with some more coming on Monday.
