Genoa, Nev. — I got word on Monday that the Douglas County Youth Ski and Snowboard Programs have been cancelled for the 2020-21 ski season due to the coronavirus contagion. I’m running a letter from the program on Thursday.

Douglas County School Superintendent Keith Lewis’ performance review will be conducted at the Board of Trustees meeting 4 p.m. today at Douglas High School’s cafeteria.

A big old CH-47 Chinook helicopter is expected to land at the high school today as part of community outreach in support of Youth Aviation Adventure in support of the Tiger Battalion Jr ROTC program.

The roads are wet up in the mountains, but the traffic cameras aren’t showing much in the way of snow on Kingsbury and Spooner Summit. The only road controls this morning are over Mount Rose and on 267 between Kings Beach and Northstar.

There’s a little bit of snow on the Tamarack Snow Stake at Heavenly this morning. The resort is planning to open for the season on Nov. 19. The discounts on early season tickets stop on Nov. 21.

I’m going to have to look again after the sun rises but there’s .8 inches of rain in my gauge north of Genoa. The Baron gauge at Lake Tahoe has an inch. It’s still raining out here. The wind gusts went from 0 to 30 mph around 7:15 p.m. Monday at Minden-Tahoe Airport with the peak gust 46 mph at 8:55 p.m.

There’s still a chance of rain in the forecast until around 7 a.m. and then partly sunny skies, with a high temperature around 56 degrees. With the rinse cycle done, it’ll be time for the dry cycle with southwest winds 15-20 mph gusting to 30 mph.
