Even as Thanksgiving looms, Carson Valley is preparing for its annual Christmas celebrations, put on hold last year by the coronavirus surge.
The theme for this year’s parade is Magical Carson Valley.
Entries are due Nov. 26 for those interested in participating in the 25th Parade of Lights from Gardnerville to Minden on Dec. 4.
Produced by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, the parade features illuminated floats, vehicles, and other mobile entries.
“We’re very pleased to be bringing the Parade of Lights back for its 25th year, especially after last year’s cancellation due COVID restrictions,” says Alicia Main, Executive Director of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce. “The community can show its support by signing up as float participants or attending the day-of festivities.”
The parade route closes Highway 395 between Waterloo Lane and Buckeye Road and winds through the two towns from Gilman Avenue in Gardnerville to Minden Park.
It is the culmination of events greeting the holiday season that will bring fireworks to Gardnerville on Dec. 2. On Dec. 3, Minden will light up its gazebo and Genoa will host caroling and a tree lighting.
The prarade is sponsored by the Carson Valley Visitors Authority, Town of Gardnerville, Town of Minden, The Record-Courier, Accolade Trophies, and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Applications to enter are available online at carsonvalleynv.org/parade-of-lights. The entry fee is $50 and the application deadline is Friday, Nov.19. Award categories are friends and family, government, service club and nonprofit, business, youth, and best overall.
