The high temperature on Sunday is expected to hit 72 degrees, which is 3 degrees short of the record 75 degrees set Nov. 14, 1995.
Less than a week after Tuesday’s storm brought nearly an inch of rain to Carson Valley’s foothills, it looks like dry weather is settling in for a bit.
Forecasters predict it will be Tuesday before a change in the weather brings temperatures down into the low 60s.
It’s a significant change since the second wettest October in the 115 years records have been kept in Minden.
An Oct. 24-25 storm left 3.05 inches of rain in the county seat, with regions in the foothills exceeding 4 inches.
That one storm more than doubled the total precipitation received in Minden over the calendar year, and provided a leg up to the water year, which begins Oct. 1, according to the National Weather Service.
On Tuesday, gauges located near the Fay Luther Trailhead and north of Genoa recorded rain totals between .81 and .92 inches. As of Thursday, the calendar year is 1.11 inches short of the average 7.26 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, an atmospheric river brought the moisture to Western Nevada, though compared to the last week of October, it was more of a tributary.
Even so, rain was reported across the eastern slope of the Central Sierra with 1.09 inches recorded near Meyers.
Heavenly Ski Resort has started making snow in preparation for their Nov. 19 opening date. Kirkwood is scheduled to open on Dec. 3.
