Update: Trio of juveniles in custody in vehicle theft spree

Three juvenile males are in custody in connection with a Thursday night vehicle theft and burglary spree that stretched from Topaz Ranch Estates to Minden.

On Friday, Sheriff’s investigators received a Secret Witness tip that led the to the three boys.

All three were arrested and two handguns stolen during the 15 vehicle burglaries were recovered.

All three vehicles stolen during the spree have been recovered and returned to their owners.

“There is no indication of any other persons involved at this time, but the investigation is ongoing,” officials said.

One stolen vehicle was found stuck on a hill above Topaz Ranch Estates, another on Washoe Tribe Land near Dresslerville, and the third had yet to turn up on Friday morning.

Douglas County investigators are looking into the three vehicle thefts and a dozen vehicle burglaries from Topaz Ranch Estates to Minden that occurred during the eclipse of the full moon Thursday night.

None of the vehicles were locked and the stolen vehicles had the keys inside.

“Please lock your vehicles and do not leave your keys inside your vehicle when it is unattended,” Douglas County Sheriff’s officials said on Friday. “We live in a safe place, but we need to prevent crimes of opportunity by locking up our valuables.”

There is no suspect information at this time. The Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is working on this case. Contact 775-782-5126 if you are a victim of a theft or you have information about who might be responsible.
