Douglas County has the fourth highest coronavirus vaccination initiation rate in the state at 59.99 percent, behind Washoe, Carson and Clark, but ahead of Lyon. That rate increase may be related to the mandatory vaccination of state employees, who are at 64 percent fully vaccinated and who make up a solid percentage of the county’s population.
Douglas’ case rate continues to drop with 11 new cases a day on Thursday, down from 22 cases a day at the beginning of September. Carson City Health and Human Services reported two more Douglas deaths attributed to the coronavirus in the week of Sept. 22-29, bringing the county to 49 since August 2020. A dozen of those deaths have occurred since July 29.
