Genoa, Nev. — The Douglas County Community & Senior Center is reopening today after mostly retiring as an evacuation shelter over the weekend. They’ll be serving seniors in the dining room for the first time in two weeks and the recreation side will be open. Some classrooms might be unavailable, so call 775-782-5500 ext. 1 to find out what precisely is open.

There was a little non-fire excitement early this morning as a Carson City deputy chased a Honda sedan with plates that came back to a motorcycle up Spooner and then toward Sand Harbor around 3 a.m. I believe Placer County wound up catching up to the driver.

Gardnerville Town Board members will review of the design proposed for the new Joe Benigno’s Tree Service building at its former location at Industrial and Highway 395 at their regular meeting 4:30 p.m. today. Gardnerville will also discuss buying signs for the dog park across Grant Avenue from Walmart.

The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Board is scheduled to discuss a request for a dog park in Indian Hills 6 p.m. today at the Community &

Senior Center in Gardnerville.

Expect widespread haze and smoke before 11 a.m. today under sunny skies. The temperature is forecast to hit 94 degrees, with the wind out of the northwest at 5 mph this afternoon. We’re tiptoeing around the 95-degree record set in 2006. It’s supposed to cool off a bit by the weekend.
