Genoa, Nev. — A proposal to install a dog park at South Sunridge Park in Indian Hills received the endorsement from the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board on Tuesday evening. The $50,000 estimate for installing the dog park will come out of residential construction tax. There are a lot of steps left in this process before canines are able to romp freely.

Gardnerville Town Board members approved a resolution in support of a grant to clean up hazardous materials at the old Gardnerville Laundry. A state environmental official said he didn’t think it likely the 145-year-old building will survive the process. Gardnerville gave the state until the end of the year to show some progress. We’ll see how that goes.

Having watched the Caldor Fire through the pall over Carson Valley, I believe the air quality is a pretty good indicator of how the firefight is going. The sensor near the high school in Minden has consistently had the highest readings and it’s sitting at 166 as of 7 a.m. The Ranchos sensor is at 56 or moderate and has been improving all morning.

With the air clearing a bit, the Main Street Farmers Market in Gardnerville’s Heritage Park is a go for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, according to Sierra Chef’s Facebook page. It’s been a couple if weeks since the last market. Next week is scheduled to be the last one of the season.

If you thought it was hot out on Tuesday, you were right. Minden set a new high temperature record of 96 degrees. The fallen record of 95 degrees was set in 2006, so it was only 15 years old. It’s going to have to get very hot to break the 97-degree record for today set in 1957.

Today’s forecast calls for widespread haze and smoke with the high temperature hitting 94 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the west at 5-10 mph, with gusts of up to 25 mph this afternoon.
