Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County posted a 20.5 percent increase in taxable sales during the month of January, according to figures released by the Nevada Department of Taxation. County merchants brought in $82.94 million during the month.

That increase won’t directly benefit the county yet, as it was still guaranteed support from the state in February, but in coming months it will become increasingly important that Douglas residents shop at home.

Carson Valley Realtors will be playing mini-golf for charity on the front lawn of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Greens fees are $5 per person with half of the take going to the winning team’s charity. At 11 a.m., after the tournament, residents will be able to enjoy a round.

Saturday is also Family Day at the Museum where docents will be talking about what it was like to attend the former Douglas County High School, which opened Jan. 3, 1916. There’s also a scavenger hunt. The museum will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hydrologists will be out poking the snowpack for the last time this season near Mt. Rose on Monday. You don’t need to don snowshoes to see that it’s not good. Visit https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/wcc/home/ for an interactive map of the West.

Besides a burst of wind on Sunday, there really isn’t much to say about the weather, which will be sunny with a high of 69 degrees both today and Saturday.
