Carson Valley Photo Club members are celebrating their 16th anniversary by meeting in person 6:30 p.m. April 12.
The club meets the second Tuesday of each month at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, in Gardnerville. Dues for the year are $36
The presenter for the club’s March meeting was Arizona photography hobbyist Cindy Marple, who talked about her trip to the Galapagos in 2018.
Marple said she had to follow strict rules there because the wildlife is not used to visitors and aren’t afraid of people.
She spent two weeks on a Catamaran named Nemo II with a dozen other people. They were ferried to the islands by Zodiacs.
“There were opportunities daily to go snorkeling,” club member Nancy Hulsey recounted from Marple’s speech. “Although the water was murky, the fish were colorful. (Marple) recommended the trip.”
The club’s monthly photo contest was judged by 40-year Lake Tahoe Community College photography instructor Pat Leonard-Heffmer.
The theme was “After the Fire.”
“Scorched” by Susan Roaldson took first place, while “Desolate Planet” taken by Dave Morgan won second place. Morgan also took third place with his photo “Death in the Mist.”
Winning photographs are on display at the Douglas County Library.
The April 12 presentation will be offered by Hulsey about Carson Valley wild horses in Fish Springs and the use of PZP contraception with a slide show of the wild horses.
“Thank you everyone and especially to our Board of Directors who have done an exceptional job of keeping The Carson Valley Photo Club active during these trying times,” Hulsey said.
