Genoa, Nev. — With Thursday’s approval of the Douglas County vacation home rental ordinance, a $20,000 fine for scofflaws is back in effect. The Vacation Home Rental Advisory Panel has seven more Tier 3 applications on file and another 19 possible, according to Community Development. They meet again on April 27.


Foothill resident Jim Slade was appointed to the Douglas County Planning Commission on Thursday to replace Nicholas Maier. Former Book Den owner Starla Doughty was picked for the Douglas County Library Board of Trustees. On Tuesday, trustees appointed Human Resources Senior Analyst Christine Vido interim library director while they search for a new one.


I have a feeling Douglas County has not heard the last from Chabad Lake Tahoe Synagogue, whose special use permit for a synagogue on Kingsbury Grade was overturned on appeal Thursday 3-2 by commissioners.


St. Gall Catholic Church’s spring rummage sale kicks off 7 a.m. today. Expect some congestion along Centerville Lane between Gardnerville and the Gardnerville Ranchos today and Saturday.

This weekend is going to see a big change in the weather from nice to nasty. While we might see rain and snow showers on Monday, the overnight lows are going to get positively frosty with 21 degrees forecast for Monday.



It was cooler than forecast on Thursday, and today is forecast to hit 79 degrees, which might tie the previous record. The wind will be out of the south at 5-10 mph, shifting west and increasing to 15-20 mph this afternoon, gusting to 30 mph.
