Genoa, Nev. — Pre-dawn snow was definitely falling in the mountains this morning, according to the traffic cameras. Chain controls are in effect over Spooner Summit, Mount Rose and Interstate 80. Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley has a high-profile vehicle prohibition and there’s a high wind advisory on Highway 395 south of the state line.
There's a serious disconnect between the forecast and the sunny skies in Carson Valley this morning. A winter weather advisory is in effect through 11 p.m. today across the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, with total snow accumulations of 2-6 inches east of Highway 89.
If you’re going into the Sierra this morning, be prepared for some slushy roads at the higher elevations. We might see some light showers on the leeward side today, but it will be breezy.
A walk-in coronavirus vaccine clinic is 2:30-4 p.m. today at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. There’s another on April 28, but we’re getting pretty close to the wrapping these up.

Another blast of weather is bringing a wind advisory for 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with southwest winds 20-30 mph, gusting to 50 mph. There may be power outages.
We may see some rain showers after 8 a.m. in Carson Valley with the snow level dropping to 4,900 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Southwest winds 15-20 mph, with gusts of up to 35 mph will liven things up today.
