Genoa, Nev. — Heavenly Mountain Resort’s snow stake is reading 14 inches of new snow over the last 24 hours, just in time for the resorts closing weekend. April storms have lifted the Carson River Basin out of the red and into the yellow to 53 percent snow water equivalent. It’s still not good, but it’s better than it was.
A winter storm warning remains in effect at Lake Tahoe until 11 a.m. this Earth Day. There were still chain controls over Kingsbury Grade and Spooner Summit at 5:35 a.m., but the traffic cameras aren’t showing any actual falling snow.
Douglas County Manager Patrick Cates received a retroactive 3 percent merit increase on Thursday with the thanks of the county commissioners.

I counted 120-140 people in the community center’s north room for the “Flip Nevada Rally” featuring Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Senate candidate Adam Laxalt. Jim Wheeler, Blaine Osborne, retired Sheriff Ron Pierini and Sheriff Dan Coverley warmed up the crowd.
The Autism Resource Fair is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Community & Senior Center. The Sheriff’s Office Autism vehicle will be there. Carson Valley Pops is hosting its spring concert 6-8p.m. in the CVIC Hall in Minden.
The Carson Valley Trails Association might see some decent weather for their weed-pull and trail clean-up on the Genoa Vista Trail between town and Walley’s Hot Springs, with sunny skies and a high of 61 degrees.
Today, we might see a few more showers this afternoon, with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 53 degrees. The 5-15 mph southeast wind is supposed to shift west this morning.
