Genoa, Nev. — Spring break is over and the buses should be rolling this morning for the big six-week push before school lets out in June. Keep an eye out for students walking to school and slow down for school zones.

Public comment may open this week or next on an environmental analysis for the Painted Rock Mine above Johnson Lane, a BLM spokeswoman told commissioners last week. The proposed gravel it is on Washoe allotment land and is being scoped by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Minden-Tahoe Airport officials said a military exercise involving a lot of helicopter activity and the landing of C-17 and C-130 aircraft is expected to take place early one morning sometime this week.

We should hear something from the Nevada State Police today on a 4 a.m. fatal collision on Highway 395 between Airport Road and Muller Lane on Saturday.

First responders were out at 4 a.m. today for a Chevrolet SUV that ended up on its roof in a field near Foothill Road and Muller Lane. The three occupants were able to get out on their own and no one opted for an ambulance ride.

The string of April storms helped erase some of the melt-off at Ebbetts Pass, located at the top of the Carson River’s East Fork. The snow-water equivalent may have hit its peak of 15.2 inches on Saturday. I’m tracking this at www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/wcc/home/

There will be a couple of blustery days to round out April, but no storms generating any precipitation in the forecast. It might be early to close out the month, but with .36 inches total precipitation, the month will be short of its .49-inch average.

Today is forecast to be partly sunny with a high of 70 degrees and the southeast wind at 5-10 mph shifting southwest 10-15 mph.
