Three of the four Douglas jail inmates who allegedly beat another inmate denied two counts each of battery by a prisoner Tuesday.

According to court documents Devin Thomas Nestroyl, Shawn Gary Stenzel, Kevin Louis Cucuk and Randy A. Martin beat another inmate causing a broken rib and several injuries to his face and head on April 1.

Video of the cell showed the four going into the cell and closing the door. In court documents the victim said he was making his bed when someone shoved him into a corner and started punching and kicking him.

Martin, 35, was sentenced for grand larceny of a vehicle just a few hours prior to the 3 p.m. beating.

Stenzel, 32, was being held on charges of possession of a controlled substance, which he admitted to earlier this month.

Cuccuk, 30, was being held after he admitted a charge of possession of a controlled substance last month.

Nestroyl, 27, a convicted felon, was not present during the arraignment because he is currently incarcerated in California on separate crimes, according to his attorney.

A $25,000 warrant was issued to return Nestroyl to Douglas County, so he could plea to the battery by a prisoner charge.

A trial date was set Aug. 1.
