Quality, people and care is the running theme at the annual St. Gall Rummage Sale and that’s exactly what the community can expect during the August sale.

“They take a lot of pride in good quality things, it’s not just junk,” said rummage sale volunteer Jayne Quinn.

Taking up most of the free space at the church, St. Gall has been conducting a rummage sale to raise money for the church since at least 1979.

“It is a major fundraiser for the church and all proceeds go back into the community and any items not bought are donated to outside charities and resources,” said St. Gall Parish Secretary Rocky Barth.

Leading up to the sale weekend, volunteers sort through donated merchandise from art to furniture, books, games and toys, clothing, household appliances, and miscellaneous outdoor items. Items are checked for good quality and working conditions and are placed in “departments” throughout the church.

In the gym is clothing for all ages, a book store, boutique, holiday decorations and nick knacks, kitchenware and linens departments.

A new department has been added this year in the “back room,” where more high-end clothing will be for sale.

“There’s some designer labels, never been worn and things that are more sought-after clothing,” said the clothing department assistant Mary Menz. “For example, silk dresses and blouses and special types like Cashmere sweaters. It’s items with more delicate fabric that can be expected to be priced a little higher than the other clothing items.”

Crafts, shoes and accessories are in the hall and the meeting rooms host the toys, electronics and small appliances departments.

Inside and outside the rummage building everything from exercise equipment, bikes and outdoor recreational items to furniture and paintings can be found.

“We call ourselves a rummage sale, but we are really upscale, “said rummage sale department head and coordinator Marilou Wickersham. “I think that’s why we’re often called the St. Gall Mall.”

Head of Outdoor sales Corry Cline said people often come from all over and usually find exactly what their looking for and more.

“It’s a great community event,” he said. “People know they will get good deals and it’s well known.

The rummage sale opens 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church located at 1343 Centerville Lane. For more information visit www.saintgall.org or call 775-782-2852.
