The super moon fills the horizon over Topaz Ranch Estates in this photo from John Flaherty. With the rains gone for a bit, it's the only thing in the way of watching the Perseid meteor showers.

Genoa, Nev. ‑ Owners of the 1,020 Virginia Ranch subdivision south of Gardnerville are planning to start work on the 1.6-mile southern leg of Muller Lane Parkway as early as this fall, four lanes, roundabouts and all, according to Don Smit, who spoke at Tuesday’s school board meeting. Smit said they hope to start building houses next year.

Developers and the school district are working on a plan to swap a 10-acre school site for eight units of employee housing. The site isn’t free to the district, it just had first option and would have also had to pay to build an elementary school there, which Superintendent Keith Lewis said wouldn’t be required.

Alpine County is starting daily 11 a.m. updates on the status of the flood recovery. Wednesday’s meeting went a good two and a half hours, much of which was public comment. Depending on the structure of those daily updates, I may not be able to get that info in the newsletter when it goes out at noon.

Candymakers are already at work producing their sweet treats at the Genoa Town kitchen for Candy Dance. While that work is proceeding preparations are underway for the Sept. 24 dinner dance. The town is looking for volunteers to help with the event. Contact Amanda Reid at 775-782-8696 for more info.

I was ahead a day on the Administrative Hearing Panel hearing a land division application in Wednesday’s morning report. It’s actually 2 p.m. today where they’ll hear the Bently request to divide 38.52 acres into four parcels near Out-R-Way and Jacobsen. The meeting takes place on the third floor of the Minden Inn.

A special meeting of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

to approve a pickleball complex feasibility study is 6 p.m. today at the Lampe Park Pavilion, 1324 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

Sunny skies and a high temperature of around 91 degrees is forecast for today. The breeze will up out of the southwest at 10-15 mph in the afternoon, so the advisory board should bring something heavy to hold down their paperwork.
