The Douglas Center for Hope and Healing and Carson Valley Active 20/30 Club host the sixth annual Summer Fest: Brats, Bands, and Brews fundraiser on Aug. 27 at Minden Park. The event features a cornhole tournament starting at 1 p.m. and food, drinks, silent auction, raffle prizes, and live musical performances from 2-8 p.m.

Wristbands are $25 pre-sale or $30 at the door and include beer tasting and one bratwurst. Brats, hot dogs, margaritas, brews, water, and soda will also be available for individual purchase, and anyone can swing by and enjoy the music for free.

Cornhole signups start at noon. Sponsored by Sierra Nevada Cornhole, entry fee is $80 per two-person team, and teams get reduced pricing on beer and brats.

Executive Director Amanda Johnson said organizers are excited to offer a great lineup of local musicians to the community.

Scheduled to perform are Mo’z Motley Blues-Rock from 2-4 p.m., Jakota Wass from 4-6 p.m., and The Lost Reverends of the High Sierras from 6-8 p.m.

Mo’z Motley Blues-Rock play “blues infected rock, pop, soul, and variety music for every occasion.” Jakota Wass strums a mix of cover tunes and originals, including songs from his album, “Battle Born,” released earlier this year. Genoa-based band The Lost Reverends of the High Sierra span genres from rock to country “and all points in between.”

The 501(c)3 nonprofit organization relies on grants, donations, and fundraisers to provide free grief support to anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one. Their services include peer sharing and support groups, home visits, community outreach and education, an annual summer grief camp for children ages 7 to 17, and school site-based groups to help support students dealing with grief and loss. The organization also offers age-appropriate backpacks filled with items that can help recipients memorialize their loved one and resources to help process different stages of grief.
