Both lanes of Highway 89 into Markleeville will be open for the weekend starting 4 p.m. today. If you find yourself in the mood for a drive, maybe head over and give the town some love. It goes back to one lane on Monday morning while CalTrans wraps up repairs.

The fire weather watch for 1-10 p.m. Saturday has yet to be upgraded to a red flag warning, which may be a good sign. The watch extends from the Sierra to Elko and from the Oregon line to Gardnerville on the far south end.
The high on Thursday hit 96 degrees in Minden, though readings may vary across the Valley. Today is forecast to hit 92 degrees under sunny skies with west winds 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. The alleged cool-down over the weekend isn’t going to make much of a dent, according to the forecast.
