The Sierra Lutheran High School Academic Olympics team captured its sixth NIAA state championship on Monday at the state meet in Eureka.
The Falcons dominated during the Western regional competition, winning all three regional meets and outpacing their closest competitor by 30 points. The Falcons historically have had a target on their backs, as they have finished in the top four in the state for the past 17 years.
The Falcons took a strong lead during the preliminary rounds of the state competition. They joined the Whittell Warriors and Pahranagat Valley Panthers in the sudden-death final round, winning by two points.
“This team continued the strong legacy of Academic Olympics at Sierra Lutheran and we are very proud of their accomplishment,” head coach Dr. Tami Seddon said.
Coach Seddon and the team were honored at a school pep rally on Thursday.
