Tuesday marks the last scheduled Douglas County School Board meeting for Ross Chichester, one of the few elected officials to be term-limited from two boards.
Chichester also served out the maximum number of terms for the Minden Town Board, which had its own celebration of term-limited member Roxanne Stangle on Wednesday.
Under Nevada law, legislative offices, such as the town boards, are limited to 12 years. Chichester has been in public office for 40 years, having taken the seat in Minden in 1982.
Stangle, who owned Tumblewinds on Esmeralda for a third of a century before it closed in 2020, joined the Minden Town Board after being elected in 2010 and has served three terms.
On Tuesday, Gardnerville said farewell to Linda Slater and Ken Miller, who reached the 12-year-mark.
Slater, who served as Douglas County recorder for eight years, took over for husband, former Undersheriff Randy Slater, who also spent a dozen years on the board. January will mark the first time in the 21st Century a Slater won’t be serving on the Gardnerville Town Board.
Miller also serves on the Regional Transportation Commission as the town representative. His term expires this month, but he could be reappointed. He also received an offer to join the board of the Chichester Homeowners Association on Tuesday.
At their meeting in December, Douglas County commissioners issued a proclamation honoring Sen. James Settelmeyer for completing his third term in the Nevada Legislature.
Settelmeyer was representing Douglas County in the Assembly when he was elected to the seat. Also recognized on Dec. 1 were Assemblyman Jim Wheeler, who served 10 years in the Legislature, and Commissioner John Engels, who declined to seek re-election after his term.
