Genoa, Nev. — A report of a vehicle hit a light pole at the intersection of Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 came in at around 7 a.m. today. There was a minivan on its top a couple of miles down from Spooner Summit around 7 p.m. Thursday. While there are no road controls, so far this morning, maybe drive as though there are.
County commissioners upheld denials of two vacation home rentals on Thursday. Looking back, I don’t believe commissioners have overturned any of the recommendations by the VHR advisory panel.
Saying banning septics on one-acre parcels would be a drop in the nitrate issue bucket, commissioners voted 3-2 against approving the ordinance.
There are serious nitrate issues in Johnson Lane and Ruhenstroth that have been blamed on septic tanks in the two communities. It doesn’t help that both communities have extremely permeable soils.

Saturday will see wreaths placed on veterans’ graves across Carson Valley. At 9 a.m. both Eastside Memorial Park and Garden Cemetery are conducting ceremonies. At 11:30 a.m., volunteers at Mottsville Cemetery will place a score of wreaths.
Looking out the window, today might be the first in a while without a fogbank by the river. There’s a chance of fog before 10 a.m., then mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 36 degrees. It’s supposed to warm up to around 44 degrees on Saturday.
