Genoa, Nev. — The word “lawsuit” only came up once during public comment Tuesday regarding East Fork Fire Protection District’s adoption of new regulations governing water supplies to homes more than 1,000 feet from a hydrant. The new regulations took effect immediately.
Alpine County recognized Chief Terry Hughes and Supervisor January Riddle on the eve of their retirement from their positions on Tuesday. Hughes coordinated firefighters’ stand that saved Markleeville from burning down the Tamarack Fire.
Pile burning will be underway near Genoa and is expected to continue into the new year, according to the Bureau of Land Management.

Three traffic collisions on Highway 395 resulted in relatively minor calls on Tuesday. East Fork and deputies responded to one 6:10 a.m. in Holbrook Junction, again at 2:07 p.m. near Ray May Way and a third at Jacks Valley Road 5:23 p.m.
Douglas County’s unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a point to 4.2 percent, representing 898 workers receiving benefits. The county labor pool lost 372 workers, accounting for most of the decline. That’s the third highest number in the state, after Clark and Washoe.
The forecast on this first day of winter calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 49 degrees today and the breeze out of the southwest shifting north in the afternoon. There’s a slight chance of rain overnight Thursday.
