Genoa, Nev. — The Carson River south of Prison Hill crested at 5.65 feet at 1:05 a.m. today, which was a little bit higher than the forecast 5.5 feet on the National Weather Service’s Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. A resident living downstream from Genoa Lane said the river is subsiding this morning.
Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reported 3.14 inches of rain at his place, which might have contributed to the high water downstream. The official result from Tuesday was 1.33 inches in Minden which put this December in the top 10, knocking 2021 out of its spot. My gauge had 1.7 inches total north of Genoa.
None of the gauges at https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=rev showed the river anywhere near action stage, much less flooding, but there are a lot of miles between Ruhenstroth and Genoa, and even more to Woodfords, as the water flows.
If you live in a place that floods, your eyeballs are a better gauge than any on the Internet, which is true of a lot of stuff. Though there might not have been significant flooding on Tuesday, that might not be true toward the end of the week.
Traffic appears to be flowing normally over Kingsbury. There are a couple of collisions on Highway 50 near Spooner Summit, with the most serious at 5:46 a.m. There might well be some icy roads up top, but no road controls.
There wasn’t a lot to report from Tuesday. Deputies were looking for a woman up at Sunridge who was having some sort of crisis on Tuesday afternoon.
A suspected gas leak resulted in the evacuation of the real estate offices on Main Street in Minden around 1 p.m. Firefighters and Southwest Gas didn’t detect anything when they got there.
We’re going to get a break today with sunny skies and a high of 42 degrees. Not much of a breeze will pick up out of the west this afternoon.
