A double rainbow over Carson Valley accompanied the first indications of this weekend’s stormy weather.

A rain gauge in Genoa recorded a quarter-inch of rain over the first three hours of a flood watch issued for Western Nevada today.

A wind advisory kicked off at 10 a.m. today which is forecast to bring 25-35 mph winds, gusting to 55 mph with the potential for 70 mph gusts through Saturday afternoon.

The wind picked up right on cue knocking a tree branch onto a table at the Genoa Country Store.

Minden Tahoe Airport recorded a 28 mph gust at 9:15 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, wind gusts are expected to hit 50 mph around 4 p.m. in Minden and then accelerate to 55 mph by 7 p.m.

Most of today’s rain is expected to arrive this afternoon, with two-thirds of an inch forecast in the Douglas County seat by 10 p.m.
