Genoa, Nev. — The owners of the former Magoo’s at Main and Eddy streets reported cleaning up the property after the town filed a code violation against the property. The town received a letter from Peripheral Storage’s attorney in November. Gardnerville Town Board members meet 4:30 p.m. today in the office, 1407 Main St.


As of Sunday, Douglas is up to an average of 40 daily confirmed cases of the coronavirus, with 6,596 total confirmed cases since the outbreak began. Eight people are in the hospital and the county has had five deaths during January, reaching 79, since August 2020.


Douglas experienced the highest number of coroner calls in a decade during 2021 up 12.6 percent to 331. The year saw increases in both hospice and natural deaths, but also in homicides with three and traffic deaths with six.


Last year also saw the lowest number of suicides in five years with nine, according to a report issued Friday at the Douglas County Board of Health. If you’re having trouble, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 800-273-8255. More resources are available at spnawareness.org.


A cold front is bringing a lake wind advisory for Tahoe starting 4 p.m. today through 4 p.m. Wednesday with 15-25 mph east winds gusting to 35 mph and waves of 1-3 feet.


It won’t be quite as breezy today, but the high temperature is supposed to only hit 39 degrees. Expect mostly sunny skies with the wind at 5 mph shifting east later this morning.
