When I talked to Hans Boeving, he credited Douglas County Transportation Supervisor Linda Skaggs for her support while he was driving for Douglas Area Rural Transit.
Linda has been keeping the buses rolling in Carson Valley for two decades.
Earlier this month, the county honored Skaggs for her service to the county.
“She operates what is probably one of the finest transit systems in rural Nevada,” Community Services Director Scott Morgan told commissioners on Feb. 3. “It’s a model for other rural counties and a lot of that credit goes to Linda to manage it.”
Morgan, who has worked for the county since 1994, said he hoped Linda would complete her career in Douglas County.
“Nothing feels better than being able to serve our community and do it in a way that is helpful,” Linda said.
By the way, Hans said that just because he gave up his commercial license doesn’t mean he won’t be helming some vehicle on behalf of the seniors.

This week, county commissioners are selecting people to fill positions left open by the New Year’s Eve death of volunteer extraordinaire Bob Cook.
Zephyr Cove physician Dr. Elisabeth Lernhardt is up for Bob’s position on the Senior Services and Public Transit Advisory Board while Kevin Kjer applied for the Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife.
Kevin, who co-founded the Chimney Rock chapter of the Fire Safe Council, called Cook a mentor and a legend.

I was in the drive-through when an old friend walked up from behind me and handed me a coin.
It was Nevada Emergency Manager Dave Fogerson who gave me a challenge coin.
Dave recently graduated from a U.S. Navy emergency manager training. It was one of those moments that can only happen in a small town.
