Bus service between Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley will be restored today after an engineer found the Tahoe Douglas Transportation District’s dispatch and maintenance building was structurally fine on Monday.
Repairs will be required to the ceiling of the fleet maintenance portion of the building, but dispatchers returned to their stations on Monday.
Last week, workers spotted cracks in the walls of the building, prompting a visit from the building inspector who declared the building unsafe.
With dispatchers locked out of the building, they had to shut down service entirely for a few days before they were able to resume limited service in South Lake Tahoe. Today will be the first time in nearly a week that the routes which serve Carson Valley will resume.
The district said they’ll keep maintaining the buses and a neighboring building while the maintenance bays are repaired.
Routes 19X and 22 operate between Lake Tahoe and Gardnerville, and between Gardnerville and Carson City.
The outage didn’t affect Douglas Area Rural Transit, which serves Minden, Gardnerville and the Gardnerville Ranchos, but did affect transfers to Carson City and South Lake Tahoe.
