Carson Valley Photo Club plans to return to in-person meetings starting in April now that the mask mandate has been lifted.

The club had 18 people attend its virtual February meeting.

Guest speaker wildlife and fire photographer Matthew Henderson spoke to the group.

He said that his Canon 7D Mark II is his workhorse camera using manual settings that he’s memorized.

For a sample of his work, people can visit his Facebook page by searching his name.

The photo club participated in the Eagles and Agriculture weekend with a display of photos taken by members, of which many were sold.

“Our display was beautiful,” member Nancy Hulsey said.

March marks the 15th anniversary of the club, which was started by Dave and Pat Colon and Doug and Sheila Dills in 2008.

Doug Dills was a photography instructor at Western Nevada College and Dave was a student.

“Doug spent many years as a photojournalist with worldwide publications,” Hulsey said. “Dave asked why we didn’t have a photography club in Douglas County.”

Doug replied “Well, start one.”

Hulsey said membership does not require that someone know about a camera, but just have an interest in photography.

“We will do our best to teach you,” she said.

Both amateur and professional photographers are members in the club.

Annual dues are $36 for individuals or $54 for couples.

“Our photography can be seen on our Facebook Page, which has 499 members,” Hulsey said. “We are also published in The Record-Courier and our club member winning photographs are displayed in the Douglas County Public Library.”

The club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Carson Valley United Methodist church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

To find out more, follow the club on Facebook, where they will post more information about their in-person meeting plans.
