Genoa, Nev. — Supporters of the Tiger basketball teams will be gathering this afternoon at Douglas High School to escort the teams to Reno. Expect to see the buses head out a 4:30 p.m. with folks lining Highway 395 with signs.
The repaving of Highway 395 through Minden and Gardnerville may start late next summer, after all. One of the delays was obtaining more than 200 right of ways for a bunch of improvements along the highway. According to an email from the state to Gardnerville Town Manager Erik Nilssen that might be a bridge too far, for now.
The California Department of Transportation is scoping work on nearly 32 miles of Highway 4 in Alpine County and is seeking public comment starting today. There’s a big old ad in Saturday’s R-C but if you’d like to email a comment, send it to scott.guild@dot.ca.gov before March 28. The work is not expected to start until 2026.
While a beautiful month weatherwise, January wasn’t particularly nice for the Stateline casinos, which saw a 4.39 percent drop in gaming revenue from January 2021. The clubs brought in $17 million and are running 6 percent behind last year, according to figures released this morning by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Monday is the last day of February, and hydrologists will be out poking the snowpack to see how we’re doing upstairs. Spoilers: it’s not great. The Carson River Basin is running 85 percent of average, while Lake Tahoe is at 83 percent and Walker is down to 79 percent.
The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 39 degrees and another cold night with the low hitting 9 in Minden. It should warm up over the weekend, with Sunday’s high temperature up to 55.
