Genoa, Nev. — Santa was good to Douglas County merchants with taxable sales hitting $109.1 million, according to the Nevada Department of Taxation, up 17.2 percent from December 2020. General merchandise stores reported a $14.8 million month, which at first blush looks like it might be a record.

The smidge of moisture we got in Minden during February kept the month out of the record books but didn’t do much for the overall water picture. February saw a trace of moisture during a month that averages 1.3 inches. That trace is also the total precipitation to have fallen in 2022, so far.

Three people sent me pictures of the balloon landing in Minden on Saturday morning. On cold still mornings the balloons will be a fairly common site across the Valley.

Douglas County deputies investigated an unattended death on Silverranch Drive on Saturday afternoon. There were a bunch of patrol cars in the neighborhood around lunchtime.

A miscommunication between a driver and the alarm company resulted in first responders searching up and down Highway 395 through the Pine Nuts on Saturday evening. The driver apparently said someone almost hit him.

The little storm we were anticipating for early this week has been delayed until later in the week and is unlikely to do much. It’s supposed to be sunny and will warm up into the upper 60s by Wednesday.

The forecast is going to be a little vague because the Reno National Weather Service front-end site is down this morning. Near as I can tell it won’t be much different from Monday. Expect sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid 60s.
