Genoa, Nev. — High-profile vehicles are banned from Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley this morning. The traffic cameras are bouncing around in the wind. Otherwise, roads both in and leading to Carson Valley are fairly clear this morning. Expect a blustery commute this afternoon.
There’s one more day off for the Douglas County School District’s Carson Valley students, while Whittell and Zephyr Cove schools are getting back to work today.
While technically not an after-school movie (because school's not in yet), the Friends of the Douglas County Library are hosting “Boss Baby: Family Business” 3:30 p.m. today at the Minden Branch, 1625 Library Lane. Admission and popcorn are free.
The R-C is closed today for the New Year’s holiday, but the virtual R-C will be operational today. I’ve got a long spell in court this morning, which means I’ll be incommunicado until around lunchtime.
With the new year comes new services, including the ability to drop off vehicle registration renewals at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office in Minden and Stateline. The Zephyr Cove Library is opening 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays starting tomorrow.
I got ambitious on Saturday and signed up for email notifications for a whole stack of 19 different board agendas under the new county software. New agenda stuff is at https://douglascountynv.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=1
A new storm front ended our cold spell with the low hitting 34 degrees in Genoa this morning. Strap in for a blustery afternoon and night with a high wind warning kicking off at noon and lasting through 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The forecast in Minden calls for a high around 43 degrees, with the south wind 10-15 mph increasing to 20-25 mph, gusting to 40 mph. The wind is supposed to really crank up tonight out of the southwest at 30-35 mph, gusting to 55 mph. I anticipate it’ll be worse on 395 through the Valley and on 88 south of Minden.
