A Vancouver, Wash., man was arrested near Lee Vining after leading a two-state chase while allegedly jettisoning drugs out of his window early Tuesday morning.

Charles Evanson, 39, was southbound on Highway 395 south of Gardnerville when he refused to stop for Douglas County deputies at around 2 a.m.

About 13 minutes later the pursuit crossed into California. California Highway Patrol officers set up a spike strip north of Sonora Junction but were unsuccessful. The chase continued through Bridgeport at 60-80 mph.

Mono County deputies joined the pursuit south of Bridgeport as Douglas deputies disengaged.

CHP officers were able to use a spike strip at Highway 395 at the Mono Inn, and after the vehicle’s tires went flat, Evanson humped out and ran down the embankment toward Mono Lake.

Mono deputies chased him down and were able to take Evanson into custody. He was booked into Mono County Jail for felony evading, delaying a peace officer and driving under the influence of drugs.
