Jesus told us the Holy Spirit will guide (lead) us into all truth. He will lead us in His truth which will direct us to live a life full of joy, peace, and abundance. Jesus also said this. John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray which is commonly called the Lord’s Prayer, He showed us how the Spirit works. Luke 11:4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.”
The Spirit will never lead us into temptations, but He will always deliver us out of them.
James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
If when we are tempted we will call upon the Holy Spirit, He will assist us to resist the desires of the flesh and provide the power to overcome any and all temptations.
Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
What I have discovered over many years of serving the Lord is being led by the Spirit only happens when we are willing to be led. It is really very simple (didn’t say easy), He will lead you if you will let Him. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and will not force you to comply, but He will bless you if you respond to His direction. He will never lead you contrary to His word and lead you into His way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
24 And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
